Content
Layers of melamine-saturated decorative kraft paper laminated to a phenolic-impregnated kraft paper core
Finish
Armored Protection (finish code: T) comes standard. Alternatively, choose from 26 other finish options
Construction
Manufactured in a flat press by laminating kraft paper saturated in melamine resin with phenolic-impregnated kraft layers at high pressure and heat. Additives are incorporated into the laminate to impart fire-retardant properties. Panels are trimmed to size and the backs are sanded to facilitate bonding to a substrate. Material thickness is determined by the number of kraft layers bonded together
Format
Panel / Sheet
Overall Thickness
Dependent on the Fire Rated Laminate product type. Product type NK61 = 0.059in. Product type NK51 = 0.048in. Product type NK32 = 0.032in
Edge / End
Edges should be filed smooth and oriented towards the substrate to help prevent stress cracks and to minimize chipping
Cleaning with a solution of warm water and liquid dishwashing detergent is all that should be required in most cases. Stains may be removed with most non-abrasive household cleaners such as FORMULA 409®, GLASS PLUS® or WINDEX® with AMMONIA D®. Light scrubbing with a soft bristled brush may be necessary to remove stains from the depth of the structure on some textured surfaces. If the stain persists, use a paste of baking soda and water and apply with a soft bristled brush. Stubborn stains that resist any of the above cleaning methods may require the use of undiluted household bleach. Note that prolonged exposure of the laminate surface to bleach will cause discoloration. Avoid abrasives and harsh chemicals
Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor
Applications
Designed for interior horizontal and vertical applications where a decorative surface must resist combustion and inhibit smoke production. Suited for hospitals, schools, airports, hotels, and any other public building where strict fire codes apply
Installation
Use carbide-tipped blades and router bits for cutting purposes. Kepp feed rates slow and tool speed high. The inside corners of cutouts should have a minimum radius of 0.125in and be filed smooth. When fasteners are required, it is advisable to drill an oversized hole through the laminate first. These strategies reduce the likelihood of stress cracks
Manufacturer Notes
This material cannot be post formed and should not be exposed to extreme humidity, continuous sunlight, or temperatures above 275ËšF (135ËšC) for extended periods of time
Flammability
Tested to standard ASTM E84 and CAN/ULC-S102-M. Results dependent on the HPL product type, bonding substrate, and adhesive. See Technical Bulletin for additional information
