Material & Finish
Construction
Manufactured in a flat press by laminating kraft paper saturated in chemical-resistant melamine resin with phenolic-impregnated kraft layers at high pressure and heat. Panels are trimmed to size and the backs are sanded to facilitate bonding to a substrate. Material thickness is determined by the number of kraft layers bonded together
Content
Layers of melamine-saturated decorative kraft paper laminated to a phenolic-impregnated kraft paper core. A chemical-resistant coating that protects against acids, bases, solvents, stains, and general reagents is applied
Finish
Armored Protection (finish code: T) comes standard
Format
Panel / Sheet

Custom Capabilities
Can be manufactured with brown or black phenolic core. Other widths and thicknesses are available upon request. ChemGuard laminates thicker than 0.125in are not available with sanded backs
Technical Specifications
Dimensional Stability
Tested to standard NEMA/LD 3-2005 for dimensional change. Results varied between 0.25% - 0.30% in the machine direction and 0.45% - 0.60% in the cross direction depending on product type and thickness.
Edge End
Polish edges for a finished appearance. Can be manufactured with colored stripes within the core. Revealed edges of thicker panels may be shaped and/or finished using standard woodworking practices
Impact Resistance
Tested to standard NEMA/LD 3-2005 for ball impact resistance. Results varied between 40in-66in depending on product type and thickness.

Total Weight
Dependent on ChemGuard HPL product type. Product type NH28 = 1kg/sqm. Product type NH48 = 1.7kg/sqm. Product type NHD2 = 9.2kg/sqm. Product type NHD5 = 18kg/sqm. Product type NHD8 = 26.6kg/sqm. Product type NHD1 = 36.3kg/sqm
Use carbide-tipped blades and router bits for cutting purposes. Keep feed rates slow and tool speed high. The inside corners of cutouts should have a minimum radius of 0.125in and be filed smooth. When fasteners are required, it is advisable to drill an oversized hole through the laminate first. These strategies reduce the likelihood of stress cracks. Refer to the Postforming Technical Bulletin for postforming guidance
Recommended Adhesive
Permanent adhesive types, such as polyvinyl acetate (PVA), epoxy or resorcinol are recommended for ChemGuard laminates with sanded backs. To enhance the chemical resistance at seams, especially with thicker laminate product types, epoxy adhesive is advised.
Suitable Substrates
Medium density fiberboard or particleboard are suitable substrate options. Do not glue directly to plaster walls, gypsum wallboard, or concrete. The use of a backing sheet is recommended to minimize warpage. Apply to the opposite side of the substrate. The thickness of the backing sheet should be relatively equal to the thickness of the decorative laminate on the face of the assembly.
Performance Metrics
Abrasion Wear Resistance
Tested to standard NEMA/LD 3-2005 for wear resistance. Result of 1,000 cycles
Flammability
Tested to standard ASTM E84 and CAN/ULC-S102-M. Results dependent on the HPL product type, bonding substrate, and adhesive. See Technical Bulletin for additional information
Flexural Strength
NF39 Bending Radius: 10 mm (NEMA/LD 3-2005 3.14) F28 Bending Radius: 7 mm (NEMA/LD 3-2005 3.14)
Light Blocking

Lightfastness
Tested to standard NEMA/LD 3-2005 for light resistance. Resulted in no effects
Maintenance
Cleaning with a solution of warm water and liquid dishwashing detergent is all that should be required in most cases. Stains may be removed with most non-abrasive household cleaners such as FORMULA 409®, GLASS PLUS® or WINDEX® with AMMONIA D®. Light scrubbing with a soft bristled brush may be necessary to remove stains from the depth of the structure on some textured surfaces. If the stain persists, use a paste of baking soda and water and apply with a soft bristled brush. Stubborn stains that resist any of the above cleaning methods may require the use of undiluted household bleach. Note that although ChemGuard laminate provides superior chemical resistant properties, prolonged exposure to harsh chemicals can cause permanent damage. Timely clean up and neutralization of chemical spills will prolong the useful service life of the laminate
Stain Resistance
Stain 1-10 No Effect, Stain 11-15 No Effect (NEMA/LD 3-2005 3.4)
Water Resistance
Tested to standard NEMA/LD 3-2005 for boiling water resistance. Resulted in no effects.
