Technical Specifications
Dimensional Stability
Postforming grade laminate is hygroscopic and therefore capable of absorbing moisture from the atmosphere. Grade 12 (HGP) = 1.1% (max) change in both Machine and Cross Directions. Grade 20 (VGP) = 1.4% (max) change in both Machine and Cross Directions.
Edge End
Square edge fabrication comes standard (the core edge of the top surface is exposed). Formica's IdealEdge®, is available in four versatile profiles that eliminate the square edge brown line
The most common sheet sizes are 4x8,10 ft, 5x10,12 ft, and 2.5x12 ft. Please reach out to your local Formica representative regarding made-to-order sizes and finishes
Contact, semi-rigid (PVAc), or rigid (urea, resorcinol) adhesives may be used. Certain combinations of finish, substrate, and adhesive can cause telegraphing. Inquire with brand for additional information.
Suitable Substrates
In most applications, the laminate must be bonded to MDF, a #45 density particleboard, or similar substrate. Do not adhere directly to plaster, drywall, or concrete. Panel assemblies should be laminated with the appropriate backing sheet to minimize warpage. Formica® Brand backing sheets (grade 91/BKV or 92/BKH) are recommended for less critical applications. Optimum balancing is obtained by bonding the same surface laminate on both sides of the assembly with the same adhesive. Always align sanding marks in the same direction.
