2020-21 Textile Sourcebook

Sustainability Trends

The success of the Cradle-to-Cradle movement, the emergence of the circular economy, and the growing economic value of recyclable material means that synthetic textiles today are more sustainable than ever before. In addition to resource optimization, textile manufacturers are also focused on low-VOC solutions, and the increasingly popular Oeko-Tex certification offers a stamp of approval on products with no chemicals of concern. Meanwhile, many design experts are urging us to wean off fossil fuels entirely, and turn either to old-school materials like wool or silk, or explore newly developed biobased synthetics.
